Recap CBI/Economy
Quick Recap of the CBI/Economy....We had some great CBI articles and discussion about each article.....Listen to the call for all of the Discussion after each article for some great info - The following is the Recap:

We reiterated that the heat is starting to come out from the CBI that Shabibi probably has his plan in place and you have his supporters working with him from inside of Parliament to try to get his story out -
Also starting to see articles coming out in a good way supporting all the great things Shabibi has done

Maliki's forces Mr. Turki trying to open more outlets as opposed to having the single outlets.. He tried to stop the auctions and got smacked by the Parliamentary Committee and smacked by the public at large - So in order to combat that he internally moved the exchange rate down a few PIPs to try to get himself some credibility because hes under alot of fire - Basically they are telling everybody that any of these names that are being given need to be thrown to the wayside and Shabibi needs to come back because the people who are driving this bus if you look really deep inside their eyes you can
can swear someone else is driving and that is whats going here - they are just crazed at what they want to do

It is becoming very very very evident this has all been done for political reasons and that there is something going on even to the point of Saleh coming out and defending the procedures that the CBI has in place for their auctions and that there is no problem

Remember at one point in time, Maliki was tied to the smuggling of the money thru the auctions thru a bank to Iran and my guess he is looking for all of this information and trying to shut down these auctions so they can't trace it any more - He's trying to really go in and stamp out the fire after it has already started

Good news is ..Dr Shabibi has many people who are coming to his aid in Iraq that are in important places in the Parliamentary Committee and others probably forming his opinion right now what he needs to do when he comes back to lay out his case
And Maliki is out there trying to say he is not doing this for political reasons but everybody knows that is not true
We have some very positive news in whats happpening in the chess pieces that are on the board right now and how they are going to move and we are anxious to see how this is going to work out for Shabibi and the CBI..

More Roundtable Discussion follows about the government and the articles listed .....Listen to the recording for all the Great Info Discussed

(Listen to the recording for all of the detailed analysis)

CBI / ECONOMY

Straight Talkin Mike takes us from the past to the present with the CBI with a Flashback from April 2012

RECAP CBI/ECONOMY
There has been a significant development in Iraq which directly affects the dinar that we’re all involved in.  This is a fairly important conversation that we’re going to have and we’re going to tell you what’s going on.  These are the facts as we know them at this point in time… this whole situation is developing and we can tell you what we know up to this point… it’s fairly significant and we’re not sure what the ramifications are… We beat that around for hours on the phone today, the good, bad and ugly so that we can come and put out to you some of the things that we kind-a have an idea of where it’s at and where it’s going… There are a lot of players; a lot of pieces on the board that have recently moved in that significantly affect this on the world stage as well as what’s going on.

Quick synopsis to bring everybody up-to-date to let everybody know where we’re at and what’s going on, talk about the events… There’s a lot of articles we have that are out there to significantly show what’s happened and to what we know up to this point in time to be what’s going on and that we’ve been able to corroborate through other sources.

We’re going to flashback to January of the beginning of the year where things were getting good and everybody was all happy and excited thinking that maybe they were going to revalue at that time… This is the first time that we pretty much have seen Maliki try to make an attempt to take over the CBI… He wanted to remove Dr. Shabibi and put his own people in there… At that time he was complaining about the $62 Billion dollars they had in reserves stating it should be Iraq’s and blah blah blah… Well what he did at that particular point in time is that he went to the courts and he was able to get 1 judge to tell him that the CBI was not an independent body and that the Council of Ministers had the power over the CBI… Well Dr. Shabibi was also able to go to the courts at that particular time and was able to get a ruling saying that they were independent and that they didn’t newt anything… So we’re going to flashback and read the Twilight News article from about April… This is what was in the news in April:

“Urgent .. "Twilight News" reveal and limit the policy document "central" However, Prime Minister al-Saadi is expected dismissal Shabibi” ---> LINK TO ARTICLE

LJ shares a news article he just received..
Iraq central bank chief sacked and sought for arrest in currency dispute

Hadeel Al Sayegh Oct 17, 2012
Iraq's cabinet yesterday named a replacement for the central bank governor, Sinan Al Shabibi, after he was suspended for alleged financial impropriety.

Parliament voted to replace Mr Al Shabibi following an investigation by a special parliamentary committee into possible manipulation of the country's currency against the US dollar by the central bank.

"The cabinet decided to authorise Abdelbasset Turki, the head of the board of supreme audit, to run the central bank indefinitely," said Ali Al Moussawi, the prime minister's spokesperson.

"The parliament today made a unanimous decision to vote for Abdelbasset, who is already handling many financial governmental decisions including the country's fiscal budget," Mr Al Moussawi said. "Subsequently, a decision was made to remove powers from Mr Al Shabibi as central bank governor."

The chairman of the parliamentary integrity committee, Baha Al Araji, said its investigation was "not about money, but about procedures that led to the weakening of the dinar against the dollar".

Arrest warrants have been issued for 30 people, including Mr Al Shabibi and his deputy, Mudher Saleh, said Haider Al Abadi, a member of the investigating committee and the chairman of the parliamentary finance committee.

He said officials were trying to establish whether the actions of the officials were a reckless oversight or intentional.

"There was a huge pressure on the currency, with the difference between buying and selling increasing in the local market, affecting the mass public," said Mr Al Abadi.

Iraq's anti-corruption watchdog confirmed yesterday that it had launched an inquiry into the bank after it received the investigation report from the parliament.

In April, the central bank introduced new regulations to govern currency auctions after demand for US dollars ballooned amid suspicions that some of the cash was being smuggled to Iran and Syria.

In August, the US president Barack Obama banned Elaf Bank, based in Baghdad, from any dealings with the US banking system for allegedly functioning as a conduit to Iran.

Demand for dollars in the central bank's weekly currency auction doubled to US$300 million (Dh1.1 billion) from November to April, putting pressure on the nation's foreign reserves of about $60bn.

"The currency has returned to stability, but there needs to be more inquiries to see whether certain changes need to be done," said Mr Al Abadi.

Mr Al Shabibi was governor of the Iraq central bank since 2003. Before the Iraq War, he spent time in Geneva as a senior economist at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

The central bank has until now been free from government interference and has been one of the most stable institutions in Iraq since the war ended.

Iyad Allawi, the leader of the opposition Iraqiya bloc, said the independence of the bank, which was necessary to maintain the exchange rate and prevent inflation, was threatened by the move against Mr Al Shabibi.

Magda Al Tamimi, a member of the parliamentary finance committee, agreed.

"The decision to issue a warrant for arrest against Sinan Al Shabibi and a number of officials at the central bank, was planned and ordered from some political forces," said Ms Al Tamimi.

"It is a political decision and not professional. Although we recognise the existence of some corruption cases in the bank, we are not happy and have reservations about this method, because of its impact on Iraq's reputation and the national economy."

RECAP
Dr Shabibi has been removed as Head of the Central Bank - 4-16 others that were underneath him have been removed and Maliki has taken over the Central Bank and put in his candidate Turki to take over in this situation - What they basically have done is merge the Central Bank with the Executive Branch and have brought monetary policy into the Council of Ministers - They have done this without regards to the Constitution - this is a battle that has gone over for over a year - this is where we sit at this particlular point in time....(Recap follows with a RoundTable Discussion with Straight Talkin Mike & LJ - Listen to the recording)

Mike reads the following article which sums up what happened today.....from the outside looking in

Iraq Names New Central Bank Chief (WALL STREET JOURNAL)

10/16/2012
The Iraqi government abruptly announced the appointment of a new central bank chief to replace Sinan al-Shabibi, a respected and politically independent technocrat who has held the position for more than nine years.

Mr. Shabibi, who is currently out of the country, and more than a dozen other officials at the institution are being investigated for alleged improprieties involving capital requirements for local banks and foreign-currency auctions overseen by the central bank, said a government spokesman and a member of the parliamentary committee probing the charges.

The government spokesman Ali al-Mussawi said the council of ministers on Tuesday named Abdul-Baset Turki, the head of the Supreme Audit Board, as an interim central bank governor after a court ruling ordered the removal of Mr. Shabibi from his post to face the charges. A spokesman for Iraq’s judiciary couldn’t be reached for comment and several attempts to contact Mr. Shabibi by telephone were unsuccessful.

The manner of Mr. Shabibi’s dismissal was viewed by many as another move by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to consolidate his powers. Mr. Maliki, who already controls the country’s military and security forces, has been consistently accused by his political opponents of laying the foundations for a new dictatorship in Iraq. He has sparred on several occasions in the past with Mr. Shabibi over the limits and scope of the central bank’s independence. Under the current Iraqi constitution the central bank is one of four “financially and administratively independent institutions” regulated by law.

“This is another sign that things are not going in the right direction and that politics is affecting everything,” said Mahmoud Othman, a senior parliament member from the Kurdish bloc.

Bassem Antoine, an Iraqi economist, said the ouster of Mr. Shabibi was motivated by Mr. Maliki’s desire to exercise more control over the bank’s reserves, estimated to reach $63 billion this year.

“This is bad for Iraq’s reputation,” Mr. Antoine said.

But Haitham al-Jubouri, a lawmaker from Mr. Maliki’s coalition and member of the committee that has been investigating the central bank’s activities for months, defended the move.

Mr. Jubouri said his committee was troubled by the central bank’s contradictory and inconsistent rulings regarding capital requirements for local financial institutions. The committee also uncovered alleged fraud and money laundering in the central bank’s auctions to sell foreign currency to Iraqi importers, according to Mr. Jubouri. He said in the first eight months of 2012 the bank sold nearly $27 billion in hard currency for import purposes, but only $4.5 billion in products actually came into the country during the same period.

The Iraqi dinar, which currently trades at around 1,200 to the dollar, fell as low as 1,280 earlier this year amid allegations that neighboring Iran and Syria, both subject to international sanctions that restrict their access to hard currency, were using local fronts to participate in the Iraqi central bank’s auctions.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal at the end of May, Mr. Shabibi said he was facing difficulties launching a redenomination of the Iraqi dinar due to government objections.

“There were some reservations by some colleagues and the council of ministers said that we should hold off,” said at the time the soft-spoken Mr. Shabibi, who hails from a prominent Baghdadi Shiite merchant family.

He became central bank chief shortly after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. Previously he worked for 21 years as senior economist with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

Recap of the News tonight
(Listen to the recording for all of the detailed analysis of the articles discussed after each news article from the list at the bottom - the following is just a brief Recap)

RECAP     CBI/ECONOMY

Recap from the articles we read and discussed tonight.....

"Haitham al-Jubouri called "central" to raise the value of the Iraqi dinar against the dollar"
What he is really calling for here is he would like to see the value of the dinar increase before they do the new budget
which is what the CBI had called for before - Now Remember lets see what has happened over the last couple of days....an article comes out by one newspaper they are going to oust Shabibi which turns out to be false - only one other article that showed up that kinda backs that just a small bit and then they disappear - of course what happens is you get people rallying for the Central Bank and these articles start to come out - One of the things they would really like to do is to re-determine their budget if they are going to increase the value which they have to increase the value at some point in time - they would like to do it so that they can do the budget in the new dollars - you are going to see those articles come out in the next couple of days and you are going to hear the pros and cons for all of that coming out shortly which we would love to see..........more power to them.........keep on talking like that

The CBI came out and said the other day the deletion of the zeroes is not going away - we would like to get the new currency out there - we would like to do at the beginning of the year
Remember releasing that currency and adding value are two different things
it would make sense for them to add some value first and then release the new currency
That is kinda the thought process out there and we would love to see them follow that....we are with you all the way

"The signing of a cooperation protocol between Kurdistan and Dubai in the stock market and currency"
We read an article about Dubais and the Dubais traders wanting to have entry into the currency - to trade the currency because they see great value like everybody else - everybody is getting excited about it and wanting to participate in it and they were talking about trading the currency - well this is one of the first steps to getting the stock market going and to opening up trading so they can trade some of this currency and get involved in all of that and this is their first input in - we would like to see the secondary markets like the stock market starting to come to fruition because that is where people can go to raise capital
But it also interesting because of the fact they are doing this because of the article that we read about a month ago
where they talked whole heartedly about them wanting to get involved with the currency....
Here we see Step 1 ..........then we see step 2......and again when we see these articles why do these people want to get involved? These are people with money - they want to come in and they want to get involved with the GDP and the growth here and everybody wants to be in there - obviously they want to get involved with whats going on.....Love it

"Syrian crisis hit the local market and traders do not know where the money went"
Very cool...gives you an idea of whats going on inside - The money is drying up, hard currency is driving up - salaries are fixed
Talks about the economy and how they relied on Syria for alot of things and how they rely on Iran - for their day to day goods
You think about the people they trade with and they talk about some of the money that went out of the country that didn't come back in goods and that affects their economy...gives you an idea of whats going inside the economy
One of the things I am happy to see is what they are talking about since they got rid of the street changors and vendors - money is just really hard to come by - you have to go to the bank to get it - they are trying to figure out where it all goes to...and they always throw something in about the money that goes out
Really the money seems to be drying up - the merchants are out there trying to make a living and go - that all is good for us because You really need to add some value to currency to stimulate the economy
& it tells you how important these trade agreements they are trying to set up and getting other people to come in
You have your 2 trading partners under sanctions - you have that going on - You need to open up deals outside of the country - you have to bring new goods in and they are looking to China, etc to bring in these goods to start filling them in to get their economy going - Really good article

"Central Bank confirms that the policy reduced the difference between the exchange rate within and outside the Bank"
I like that article - it tells you alot about whats going on - how they really need to get the currency stabilized & that theres alot going on inside and outside the country and as I have said before you want those rates to very close to the actual rates as they are doing them - Very important if they are going to add value you don't want fluctuation in either direction and you really need to have that stabilized  - these articles give us a great look into the economy and whats going on over there

All of the articles tonight we discussed are all signs that you would look for if you are trying to increase the value of currency - they are going in the right direction AS USUAL ....The CBI knows what they are doing...they know whats going on and they are getting it done

GOVERNMENT

"Iyad Allawi offers three solutions to Talabani on the political crisis"
They are talking about the conditions that will come....these are good articles and you will see these......But remember Talabani is talking to the choir here - he knows what he needs to do to get these people - he was in the agreement and he knows what he needs to do -  It is the agreement he needs from Maliki to make sure all of this stuff happens and Allawi giving his assurances and as long as we get the things that what we need we will be there - Talabani is saying yes we get this - Talabani is trying that end run and gathering all the information as we come back to get all their political stuff in line so when he sits in front of Maliki he can bring him everything that he needs to - Talabani is making sure that he gets his deals in order -  lining up all the parties to make sure they everything signed that they need - we know they have to have Erbil in place before they go to the National Meeting

"The new U.S. ambassador arrives in Baghdad and sworn in as ambassador of his country to Iraq"
Good news - Beecroft is confirmed now - This is the guy that is supposed to put our political pressure on so we are going to keep an eye on what he has to say - hopefully he will put the pressure on them to get these deals done - we have him there now - we had nobody there for a few months - Certainly fantastic news our representative is now in place-  these are the people we use for diplomatic pressure that need to be meeting with them telling them what the consequences are if you dont do XYZ...Love it and so very important

"Deputy for the rule of law: demanding the implementation of the Convention on Arbil to attend National impede meeting"
Trying to get everything done and solved....one of those news days you can say "no crap" to some of the news we read ....its because we know what needs to get done....we are looking at things that need to be there so that they can move forward and what we are seeing today is that all of the parties know what they want in the news and getting this stuff out there and they are all agreeing on that so its whether they are going to have the teeth  to fight it when Maliki comes back and start to push everything forward

Recap of the News tonight
(Listen to the recording for all of the detailed analysis of the articles discussed after each news article from the list at the bottom - the following is just a brief Recap)

RECAP     CBI/ECONOMY & GOVERNMENT
STRAIGHT TALKIN MIKE

Brief recap from the articles we read and discussed tonight.....

We have heard some excellent news tonight with the formation of the Government moving forward -  Must Listen to Roundtable Discussion between myself and LJ....listen to the recording

We are constantly hearing good news from the Central Bank - the progress they are making and being ready to go on an international basis - them ready to go on an international basis with their debit cards and everything they are doing
We know exactly what they are doing - Shabibi is willing to talk about anything he needs to talk about or is asked for in front of Parliament because he does not have anything to hide with what he is doing - he is not smuggling currency..he is NOT doing that - He needs the auctions in order to maintain what he needs to maintain - he has to put dollars in his economy and he has to take dollars out of the economy - we have seen lots of articles on how thats happening and they are not happy with it - Obviously he is not going to put more dollars into the system to flood his system with dollars that are deflated as we have heard
then have to worry about that affecting his currency so it is a fine line between what he releases out to the banks and what he has to give to the banks - he also has to realize that some of that is making its way outside the country and he doesn't want to flood all that money - he needs it more flooded into his economy in order to stabilize his currency in order to give people something to use to kinda buffer the two to keep the prices where they are so he can move forward
Remember if his currency fluctuates, the IMF will NOT give them the tip of the hat and the local Banking Systems are not going to let him do this when his currency is very volitile and hes got different rates all over the place - For 10 yrs he kept that rate pretty solid and he kept the in country rate very close to where his rate at the bank was at so he can effectively do that - He has it pre-stabilized at this point in time and you are not hearing too many people complain about the different rates - We are actually hearing and seeing articles telling us the rates are slowly coming down in country so they have a little more value
value and people are happy with the value they have at this particular point in time and that is where he wants it to be so he can go ahead and make his moves unilaterally and inject the syrup that he needs in this economy to make it grow and he will do that bit by bit and only he knows when he is ready for that and only he knows when that is going to happen

The keys that we are looking for is the formation of the government moving forward with the Federation Council being in play....you have Maliki coming back...we are looking for the 140, Erbil Agreement,  HCL being done and we are looking for the power sharing to come into place
The two biggest keys we are going to see movement on are the HCL and movement on this Federation Council as we move forward
and that is what we are going to be looking for from now thru the 15th -
Maliki will be back soon - there is alot being tried to be done and they have kinda put it off til he gets there
We will have to see how this goes as the articles come out.......be prepared as Maliki returns these things tend to stop and are put off as he plays his games...as LJ said earlier delay is a good tactic for him - Maliki is spread thin so he is going to try and delay
He loves to call for the National Meeting - he will call for it every day but until they have agreed and pounded out what they need to - eventually his own party is going to start getting tired of hearing it and he will have defections - One of the keys to those defections is the Amnesty Law and once people realize he was putting away people and putting them them there for reasons they didn't need to be there - I think you are going to start see people in his party even more upset with him even more so than they are now

Parliament votes to give the ninth seat in the election commission for the Turkmen component
This is great news for us........very happy to see this today
LJ shares some great important updates with us on the government after the CBI articles are discussed,  before the Q & A and during the Q & A......All Good News

Lets review the things we would like to see happen as we have discussed many times and tonight in the news
We would like to see the Security Minister Seated - we discussed an article about Obeidi being reoffered back up and as we discussed tonight there are NO objections to him being the defense minister by anyone on those committees - We want to see the 140 Oil & Gas Law and those things starting to move forward where we can see who is going to sign those contracts and we see the committee members are named and they are serious about sitting down and talking about this and getting this done
We want to see the money being handed out to the people because you have to start handing out the revenues to the people like we said we were going to do and they are going to add some value to that - remember you have very little value - they are going to add some value - the value is going to change - people will no longer want to go out and blow up things - they will have money to do the things that they want to do and have a life - that will help with the whole security situation in Iraq and once those things are in place then you can announce the government - Then we switch over to the CBI
What is the CBI looking to get done....CBI wants to make sure they have a solid banking system that people can come in and invest and borrow money and the banks can sell their products - You have Central Bank and making sure the people can have their money in the bank and what are they doing to facilitate that?  They are issuing more smart cards to the people so they can put their salaries on them and get them used to coming to the banks - This is More Good news - people getting used to putting money in the banks - what better thing to do is to give them Smart Cards which is tied to a bank account and gets them used to coming to the banks - more and more provinces issuing smart cards....all great news

And then we discussed the Central Bank asking the government to open up economic bridges with friendly countries to come into the bring more money into the pot from friendly countries so they won't have to rely on the countries they are losing their money from.   Very good - they come back from the London seminar and the Central Bank says there are friendly countries that want to do business with us across the world and we need to make it more conducive for them and Parliament needs to make it easier for these countries to come in - it is prime situation for these countries because it really benefits them very well because of the fact that they are going to guarantee it by the IMF for these countries to come in and do these things

We discussed the House Speaker coming out and telling us the Central Bank is pretty much an independent agency which we know and that they are viewing it as such - and they are starting to understand and define their role so we had some very good articles tonight of where we are at.....

Remember for this process to work you need to have the Central Bank have some sort of working relationship with Parliament so that they can pass the laws that they need - there are Securities laws, etc.  We talked about the Stock Market - these are equity markets that need to be coming on line with trading - we talked about a couple of days ago people them trying to implement some type of electronic trading and you also want to see people going to that market to raise more capital - you've got some laws that need to be passed for that and that needs to be viable too - You've got these 3 components they really need to do - what is the Central Bank doing - they are juicing up the economy - you want to make sure you put all of the components that you need to make the gasoline for the economy - and what makes an economy run?  Its money...people buying....in order for people to buy they have to have jobs - in order for them to have jobs they have to have businesses that can hire them - at this particular point in time you need to make sure they are open up for construction and firms to hire the people - once you put all of those components in you have to make sure you have a banking system that can handle loaning money and doing the transactions for people - and slowly but surely they have been putting themselves in the international circle with banking and connecting to all the international  banks so they can go ahead and do these things and bring their country up to the point to where they are at and they can get moving - They will be play an intricate part to whats going on with Iran and Syria based on where they are
They need to be more stable and there are political pressures for them to get their government moving in the right direction - maybe not as much as we have seen in the past but it is certainly moving to fruition and we need to play a bigger role to come in - hindsight is always 20/20 with all that stuff but we are seeing some very positive movements as we move forward - Once all of the those things are in place - then he really juices the economy by adding value to his currency at some point in that whole process when all those ingredients are in and he understands when he needs to add more gasoline - gasoline is the value to the currency and get that economy revving up and moving forward

Recap of the News tonight
(Listen to the recording for all of the detailed analysis of the articles discussed after each news article from the list at the bottom - the following is just a brief Recap)

RECAP     CBI/ECONOMY
STRAIGHT TALKIN MIKE

Brief recap from the articles we read and discussed tonight.....

Central Bank starting to invest in funds for Retirees - they are moving into doing what they do which is looking at sovereign funds - buying up sovereign debt - putting that in there - selling gold and silver to the people - Central Bank is moving into what I would call Phase 2 of what they normally do outside of the currency - they have their retail markets and things that they actively get into the market which is buy debt, etc and it looks like they are getting ready to start entering into doing that to help out the Central Banks in the region as well as the world

We discussed all the increased laws we are starting to see over there and that Parliament is looking at trying to increase the per capita income of people so they have more money to fund this economy that is going to grow in that region

We discussed the Securities and Exchange Commission adopting new mechanisms for the stock market to adopt new rules to attract investment - We talked about how that it is a good means for companies to raise money and do things they want to do - attract the entrepreneur - get people to go - get people to build restaurants - open up and do things that we have done here - if you look at all the companies that we have here they all started out as small mom & pops and grew their way up because of the economy and the Stock Market helps them to do that

We talked about the House of Representatives voting on the Electronic Signature and Electronic Transactions Bill
where electronic signatures are legal - this is all good as they start moving into this electronic age over there and they are going to be ready to go out of the get go- I can just imagine what that is going to be like because we had to grow into it -
Not something we had all the time doing all this banking on our I-Phones like we have now  - being able to do your banking - snap pictures of checks and deposits......Its all good stuff

We talked about the final article that they are not going to replace the currency during 2013 and that the economic situation is not right - Kurdish language being on there, etc - and as we have talked about many times on our calls that these two events are NOT tied together to the adding value to the currency....this was discussed at length during the call and during the Q & A...listen to the call...Great information

We discussed the Parliamentary Committee of the Legal Committee CONFIRMED that the deletion of the zeroes is constitutional - that there is nothing more required for the CBI to do
They have done what they need to do and they can move forward constitutionally with their project
Now remember they had alot of different things going on with what was happening with this project of deleting the zeroes and dealing with the currency...and you had the Parliamentary Committee trying to bring Shabibi in talk to him about it - so he went to the legal committee and said this is legal and they confirmed that it is

We talked about the inflation rate being under control  - 14% for August - which brings their annual inflation rate to somewhere about 5-6% -they are happy with that - they have their inflation rate under control - housing is going up - salaries are coming down they are right where they need to be with the inflation - I don't think you are going to see it go too far from there

We talked about the Chamber of Commerce talking about how an economic boom could happen over here - Chamber of commerce urging the Jordanian people to get involved, as well as Americans to get involved with Iraq because they feel there is going to be a boom in Iraq - Remember what the Chamber of Commerce does - they try to point out opportunities for American Businesses around the world that they can take advantage of and also world people who can come in and take advantage of situations in America here

Financial Conference in London concluding and several recommendations - Most of those recommendations
were about getting the Parliamentary things to get done that needed to be done inside the executive branch - talked a little bit about banking and the laws and getting people interested in the banking
The primary thing is that Shabibi laid out his road map - showing the people where he is going - how he wants to do it and how he wants to get there........All Great stuff
Remember this is all a slow process that has to be done and its important to the economy for this banking system starting to build itself and starting to get people used to it - Eventually they are going to have money to put into the system at some point in time and they want to be sure that can be safely done

We talked about HSBC getting out of the Iraq market - Why did they get out of the market?  Simply put they don't want to take the risk - just like you - if you are nervous and upset and think something is going to be different you would withdraw and sell your dinar and get out of this currency at any point in time that you want to - If the heat in the kitchen gets too hot then you get out of the kitchen and this is what they have decided to do - Can they come back in?   Yes they can but based on what they see and that they seeing it as a risk - at this point in time they are not willing to take the risk - its not the end of the world - you are going to have companies coming and going  - alot of people can't stand this type of investment - it is a high risk - high reward type of investments for businesses - not everybody is Donald Trump...not every bank president can make the right decisions...Remember that...Alot of people will jump out of this currency because of all the things they hear - alot of people are driven crazy by this currency and should get out but they don't - you have to apply common sense - businesses make decisions and you also need to make decisions  - just all makes sense when you put it in those terms

RECAP     GOVERNMENT
STRAIGHT TALKIN MIKE

Brief recap from the articles we read tonight......

WOW....what happened in the government....Lots going on in the government - It was a great couple of days in the government...

We took a big look at Article 140 tonight - what transpired this week - Maliki let go of the funds to pay the oil companies which were disputed for the Kurdistan region - this was huge lift to the Kurds - they were able to pay oil companies - they were able to get a portion of the proceeds that they were supposed to get - they even upped in from 11% to 17% going back to them - they were very very happy - the regional councils in Kurdistan voted and approved this - Bagdhad approved this - this was the  approval of the monies sitting out there in the contracts and legitimizes what the Kurds signed and now they get to share a little bit in that revenue and they are very happy because they know it is going to happen - Now they talk alot about the things that need to get done -  they still have the disputed regions and a few other things that need to get done but we talked about the Parliamentary Committee taking up and hearings on the 140 so they can get this passed next week - that is the closest we have ever been and they are actually talking about it and really going forward

Maliki got spanked - wanted to come to the US to meet with Obama and got turned down - being turned down in that fashion is a very very big sign - one of the reasons noone wants to meet with this guy is he is toxic and because of the Hashemi matter - Hashemi is singing on the highest mountain that Maliki is bad and that he needs to get looked at from the international community and taken care of - he's telling them he is dealing with Syria and Iran and stealing from the Iraqi people -trying to build his case from outside and I hope he says it everyday -  it makes Maliki toxic and  have to do things at this particular point in time

We talked about the approval from Kuwait to remove Iraq from Chapter 7 - they have been given it for years - they are ready to go - it is pretty much tied to the formation of their government - once this is in place they will be able to remove the final chapter of their sanctions which is Chapter 7 and and they will be ready to go - makes no sense to remove it before the formation of their government at this particular point in time because the UN has no recourse if something goes wrong - where you form some sort of dictatorship you want to have some sort of stronghold in their to come back and say you can do these things or you haven't met these agreements

Overall we had a great day in Iraq in terms of moving things forward - what we are waiting on next to see the date of the National Meeting and see if we can get the rest of these reforms passed - we have people talking - biggest hump in the road for the National Meeting is going to be Allawi and his power sharing and seeing where that goes - that is one of the big hurdles - I think what you have here is Maliki attempting to back door him and bust up the coalition by dealing with the 140 - great for us - we will take it - We will take it but eventually he is going to have to deal with Allawi and the situation that allows Allawi to have some of that power and moves in - Eventually he is going to have to give up a chunk of his power and that is when he is going to be eventually done and eventually he will drop out of the politics of Iraq

And there you have it...

The Meetings in London started today and we had a Live report from London at the end of the call - Frank joined us with a recap of
todays topics at the end of this call LIVE FROM LONDON.... Great Information shared
Lots of CBI articles this week coming out on economists talking about the Middle East Economy - there has been some talk about free floating again...of course none of this came from the CBI - it was put out by economists and others hypothesizing about it in the community -
IMF talking about the world economies and things that are going on - as you know, the banking industry is the key to getting on track and for this RV to take hold - The London meeting is probably one of the key points to getting investment coming into Iraq -
Remember what has to happen in the terms of economics - you have to get your banking system in place - you have to a have a private sector economy waiting to have some of that money come in and once that almost simultaneously happens you have to have people coming in with investments - large companies investing money - building houses - putting people to work - those type of things to help generate more money into that economy - Central Bank sits in the middle of all of that and they make alot of money off of all that doing what they are doing
Very key that they have all of this going on
There are laws that need to be passed to make the banking sector more strong

Frank Bell shares from London some of these very same things we have been discussing for months at the end of the call tonight
CBI we talked about the Meeting in London, they are moving forward...trying to attract others to come in - please take everything that is going on with a grain of salt - we talked about the articles and the free float versus managed float - There are consequences for everything that the CBI does -  Listen to what the CBI has to say NOT what economists say...you will be in much better shape understanding that there are certain things that need to be done on the government side for this RV to take place and move forward

RECAP     GOVERNMENT
STRAIGHT TALKIN MIKE

Brief recap from the articles we read tonight.....

Talabani has arrived home finally....his next couple of days will be with filled with meetings with others and Maliki and others ...we want to see him do that - Everybody is talking about having a National Meeting
There are certainly calls again for diplomacy to remove Iraq from Chapter 7 - We are pretty sure based on what we can read and what we can see that Chapter 7 is tied to the formation of their government
which makes sense and they need to form their government so as they are doing that falls into place once that is done
We saw that the Oil & Gas Law has taken a step forward - they resolved the issue that was keeping the oil turned off which was paying the oil companies the monies they needed to pay them
Iraq was not paying them the initial fees because of the disputing of the contracts - Talabani showed up and all of a sudden they opened up the checkbook and said here lets go ahead and give you the money
Now there are still disputes over Kirkurk and a couple of things they have going on there - we don't have full implementation of the oil & gas - its about money - Extremely positive move on Baghdads part to resolve that issue making sure those things got done - moving that forward - even Sadr came out - he was a little worried that signing the agreement might sway them in a way that would bring them together and against everything else that is going on because their coalition needs to stay pretty strong but as we read in the article they didnt get everything - just a small piece and a good step forward for them - We are very happy and very excited to see at least some positive moves in that area - at least get those oil companies paid and moving forward
