Straight Talkin Mike's Transcription of the Recap of Tonight's News
(Listen to the recording for all of the detailed analysis of the articles discussed after each news article listed - the following is just Straight Talkin Mikes recap of the news discussed)
Absolutely An "EXTRAORDINARY" NIGHT OF NEWS....So many great articles, analysis and discussion
RECAP
CBI/Economy
We discussed that the Finance Commitee decided they were going to enact some regulations to help with the control of cash flowing outside of the country
They enacted a regulation to only allow 50,000 worth of cash travelling outside of the country - that is for people who are leaving the country and thats plenty for them to go and do what they need to do and contract business and banks and not really start to drain that
that is key - we always said the Finance Committee needs to work in conjunction with the CBI in order to enact the regulations to help them
They do the monetary policy...they do all the things that they need to do and the rules & regulations help the CBI accomplish what they want to accomplish - thats what happened today - that was one of the good things that were there
Then we discussed One of my favorite articles of the night - Shabibi went to Parliament - almost like going to Washington
He sat there and he talked about the things that he needed - they wanted to explain to them about the currency and the 3 zeroes and all of that good stuff - and they said look heres our thoughts on this - Why don't you take these with you and we can continue to have this dialogue and then we can start to understand how we need to help you
Very very key stuff
I think it's interesting Shabibi went to a major meeting and he's coming back and now everybody is trying to do the hands on and helping and all that kinda good stuff
Very interesting and good that these things are starting to happen - starting to see everybody helping which is great - just one of my favorite articles of the day
Moving to the government
We discussed the article about the application of Tariffs - starting the end of June - 1st of July - it has not changed - it has always been that date - decided not to try and hold it off - they want to push the tariffs up - we know that the reason they need these tariffs are for keeping the goods flowing and keeping all the quality goods coming in
as well as what it does- it adds dollars to those goods and it costs more to do things which is inflation
Truly there are people that are worried that if they don't add value to their money that there is going to be inflationary pressures
Saying look we have to do it sooner or later and we need to do it sooner beause as we are building - if we don't have these tariffs in place to help protect the goods and services coming that are coming in we don't - we don't get it - and it is absolutely really imperative from a Parliamentary standpoint they push that - its great for us..So as of right now it is still a GO...
We talked about the Kuwaiti Ambassador and him talking saying everything has basically been pen and pencilled and all that good stuff - and for all consequential purposes all the issues that they need to have resolved ARE resolved - they are speaking loud and clear
Truly Chapter 7 is in the hands of the UN - (they must listen to our calls) - the UN will at one of their meetings decide that all of this is ready to go - they will their formal ceremonies - tons of articles coming out like these informally saying Chapter 7 is completed because that is the last thing they had to do formally -
they are just waiting for the UN to give them their stamp and say it is done and move forward
We heard Parliament come out and say if the Oil & Gas Law is not done that they are going to pick it up at the end of the legislative recess and take it to task - they are going to say look we are going to finish this up and we are going to move forward with this because we know this is what is causing the political crisis to have a problem
Down south Allawi decided he was going to come out - saying very strongly there is no independence for Kurdistan - they want to be a part of Iraq - But Maliki needs to get his stuff together and they need to get going and do what they need to do
Another GEM of an article - one of the best I have read in a year BAR NONE- Maliki took his cabinet down to Kirkurk - they had a meeting there and decided to let the Kirkuk and these other governors decide - that they can go ahead and pen their contracts for the petro oil - This is one of the things we wanted to see
This is something they decided on - we want to see more on this - But Pretty much the enactment of the HCL and letting people know how they are going to get their money in
We said we wanted to know how the money was going to get into the cash register - Well this was a big step forward telling us who is going to be able sign those contracts - This was a BIG GIFT
He also decided to give alot money to the people down there -
Remember he's a politician that needed to not look weaker than Sadr - he comes to Kirkuk where they just had a meeting with Sadr last week and he drops this bombshell that we are going to let you sign these contracts and we are going to give housing and stuff to the people etc - he had to match that - - he didn't want to look impotent to Sadr - Sadr has been driving alot of these people and alot of the these things going on
The next step maybe looking for a National Meeting and getting them ready to go and getting them ready to come out
and get them to move forward because one of the big sticking points was this for the Natlional Meeting - Maybe this will make the National Meeting happen
Then there is Barzani out there - we threw a chunk to Allawi - a little bit to Barzani - is this going to be enough to hold off the No-Confidence Vote - We will have to see what happens
but this was a huge step forward to doing that
Maliki pressure article about him - paper saying he is willing to do anything to keep his power - you start to get this with the people understanding that maybe he is not out for our greatest good -
trying to do the best he can - hang on to his power - theres alot going on - Theres alot of pressure
Certainly the things that happened today were Extraordinary
and one of the things we wrapped it up with is Parliament went on Holiday Recess til June 14 but they would have to come back into session if there was anything "ExtraOrdinary" going on
Remember their Parliament is very similar to ours over here..
Its not out of the ordinary for them to take a Recess but it was very interesting that IF something Extraordinary happens they should be ready to come back in session....this was posted on the Parliament website....
He also called on Mr. Najafi, ladies and gentlemen deputies to attend in case the call for an EXTRAORDINARY session during the holiday legislature.
Then decided to adjourn the meeting until the day of 14/6/2012.
