Diana’s Challenge: B-Cell (Large Cell) Lymphoma Cancer.
Diana is my sister and a sister to Maria, Rosanna, Marianna, Tina, and me, Joanie. Diana is also a daughter, a mother, an aunt, a cousin, and a friend to many. Family and friends have started to assist, crossing off projects to help run the next months as smoothly as possible. Without delay, I am grateful to her friend Deb. Deb may not realize she took charge making my list less in genuinely expressing the concerns that Diana will be facing. My family and I are appreciative for the foresight in setting the circumstances into the loving and caring words written below:
Diana is a single mother and sole caregiver of a 27 year old developmentally disabled young man, mentally between the ages of 3 and 7 depending on the task. Her son Brian is her every heartbeat, and it is with him in heart and mind that motivates her every move. Diana has fought for every possible best interest of her son solely for the past 27 years, and now finds herself in the position of fighting for her own life so she can continue giving him the best care possible, the love and care that only a mother can and will give! She has become a warrior and determined to beat Large B-Cell Lymphoma Cancer which was finally diagnosed in June of 2014, after a long and rough road of testing since November of 2013.
Although it was several months before November of 2013 that Diana was not feeling quite right, it wasn't until November of 2013, when she came down with bronchial pneumonia and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance, that the truth of what was really wrong was found. After chest x-rays and other tests they diagnosed and treated the bronchial pneumonia, which lasted her 9 weeks! Two days after the chest x-ray Diana received a phone call from the hospital advising that her doctor order a cat scan due to the fact they found a mass on her left lung. Diana's doctor ordered the cat scan immediately, which was then followed by another cat scan with contrast, then followed by 2 pet scans, 3 separate bronchoscope procedures and then a needle biopsy….. The mass was not able to be defined until June 12, 2014 after an invasive surgery where they had to remove a piece of the mass in order to get a definite and clear diagnosis which was B-Cell (Large Cell) Lymphoma Cancer. Diana was in the hospital for a week after surgery and due to various complications, one being not able to be weaned off oxygen, she had to be placed into rehab for another 2 weeks for various therapies.
July 22, 2014 Diana began her first chemotherapy session. Her challenges go beyond her chemotherapy and the aftermath those sessions invade upon the body. In spite if having health insurance, there are out of pocket expenses for supplies she is required to have that go above and beyond her fixed budget. The gas alone back and forth for chemotherapy, shots, and follow-ups with the oncologist has taken a toll on her budget and her old car….. The trip takes an hour both ways each time she goes, which is several times per month, not to mention the trips to various other doctors in between. Her son has not been able to live in their home since June 11, 2014 and cannot return home until her chemotherapy sessions are completed sometime mid November. Having him stay in a respite/crisis home has also cost much her more than if he were to be living at home, placing a strain on her normal bills such as rent and utilities.
Our goal here is to help her raise enough money to help cover some of the sterile medical supplies, supplements, antibacterial supplies, gas, a dependable car, care for her son, etc. in order that Diana can free herself of those worries and mainly focus on being the warrior she is and beat this cancer. Chemotherapy is hard on the body and depletes ones energy. Diana's attitude is positive and strong….. She is hopeful and determined….. but she cannot do this alone. Please join her fight by donating however small or large you are in a position to do so that she is able to be free to focus on her fight and healing.
Thank you for your support.
